Missouri State Character Ed Cards Honored
June 2007

The 2006-07 Missouri State University student-athlete Character Education cards will be honored this month with a special award from the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA).

The 30-card Missouri State set is one of five entries from among 800 received in NACMA competition from across the country to receive the “Best of the Best” award, in addition to being first in its category. The five winning national entries will make presentations about their entries to the NACMA annual meeting and convention in June in Orlando, Fla.

The card set was prepared for Missouri State through assistance from the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce with its Character Education program, with the financial commitment for producing the cards received from the Springfield YMCA. The set, jointly produced this year for the second year in a row by the Chamber of Commerce, YMCA and Missouri State, includes full-color cards featuring 15 male and 15 female student-athletes with all 16 of the University’s intercollegiate sports represented.

“This is a great honor for a most worthwhile project that was really a team effort from a lot of people,” said Missouri State Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing and Development Brent Dunn. “Casey Comoroski assisted in the selection of the student-athletes to be represented, Lance Kettering put in countless hours in the actual production of the cards, Sophie Pierpoint worked in the appearances of the student-athletes with the cards and John Wall and Kevin White took the photos on the cards.

“Missouri State is most appreciative of the second-year involvement of the Chamber of Commerce and the Springfield YMCA and we also want to thank the 30 student-athletes who took part as the subjects for the cards for their time in working on the project. These students serve as role models for our local youth and we hope this program will assist in
promoting character education.”
